Ohio Woman Sentenced for Medicaid Fraud

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced on November 30th that a Cincinnati woman has been sentenced to 19.5 years in prison for multiple counts of theft from developmentally disabled persons in a group home.  Yvonne Alexander forged documents to gain control of funds from residents and fraudulently obtained Medicaid funds.  This prosecution was a combined effort of the Ohio Attorney General’s Health Care Fraud Unit, the Cincinnati Police Department and the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office.  Continue reading

Federal Appeals Court Rules New York Must Relocate Thousands Of People With Mental Illness

The New York Times reported that “a federal appeals court has ruled that New York State must comply with a lower court’s order to begin immediately transferring thousands of people with mental illness in New York City out of large, institutional group homes and into their own homes and apartments, where they will continue to receive specialized treatment and services.”

“The plan would give nearly all current and future adult home residents the opportunity to move into supported housing scattered throughout the boroughs, where they would live independently while also receiving assistance like case-management services and visits from psychiatrists and nurses.”
