Due to the implementation of system updates, the IRS has announced that the Modernized e-file (MeF) system for electronic filing of Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, among others, will be unavailable from January 1, 2012 through February 29, 2012. Organizations required to file during this time period, by due date or first extended due date, will be granted an automatic extension to March 30, 2012. No form needs to be filed to receive the automatic extension. Returns filed by the March 30, 2012 extension date will be considered timely filed. Additionally, organizations normally required to file electronically will have the option to file a paper return during the suspension period. Filing of the 990-N e-postcard is not affected by the temporary suspension. For additional information, see this —> Article.
