Comments Solicited for Draft of Revised Guidebook for National Practitioner Data Bank

The Health and Resources and Services Administration (“HRSA”) of the Department of Health and Human Services has issued notice of a draft revised guidebook for the National Practitioner Data Bank.  The Guidebook provides policies that serve as a resource for Data Bank users to clarify legislative and regulatory requirements.  The Guidebook provides examples for querying the Data Bank and reporting professionals to the Data Bank along with frequently asked questions (FAQs). Feds Start New Public-Private Partnership to Combat Health Care Fraud

In a July 26, 2012 press release, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced the launch of a new public-private partnership among the federal government, State officials, private health insurers, and other health care anti-fraud groups to prevent health care fraud. HHS and Other Federal Departments Issue New Rule on Health Plans

The U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services, Labor and Treasury issued a final rule on February 9, 2012 requiring health insurers and group health plans to provide consumers with an easy-to-understand summary of benefits and coverage and a uniform glossary of commonly used health insurance terms. These disclosure requirements are intended to help those shopping for insurance, as well as those already enrolled in a plan, to make comparisons to better evaluate their health insurance coverage options.
